A Walk through The Studio

I’ve just taken a charming studio in a 1920s building, dedicated to artists’ studios, in the Historic Downtown area.  It’s a beautiful space with perfect lighting, hardwood floors and glass original to the building… now full of my artwork!

Take “A Walk through The Studio” here:

Shoes, shoes and more shoes! What’s Better than Charcoal Pencil Victorian Shoe Drawings?

 Mesdames Pompes I

I absolutely love shoes! Italian, leather, black shoes in particular. For total comfort, it’s American-made SAS leather shoes in all configurations (and the SAS walking shoe would have been my choice had I been walking around Galilee with Jesus!). I’ve found that if I take particularly good care of my shoes, they will last for 10+ years.  Of course, that means   Mesdames Pompes IIMesdames Pompes IIIdiligent cleaning and storage, but it’s certainly worth a bit of effort.

When it comes to inspiration for drawing, it was the collectible Victorian Fenton glass shoe that began my glass and ceramic shoe collection that caught my eye last December. Preparing for a Christmas exhibition, I decided to draw 3 versions of a Victorian shoe, and  Mesdames Pompes I, II, and III are the happy result. Considering framing these charcoal pencil shoe drawings in something other than my traditional black museum framing, I went with bright red aluminum and WOW! they looked mah-velous hanging in that Christmas exhibition.

Having recently completed the 6th charcoal pencil drawing of The Tulipa  Series, you’ll observe evidence of the Tulipa in the Mesdames Pompes  drawings as well.

Carol Taylor Black and White… The ART BLOG!

Beache b&w

WELCOME…

to Carol Taylor Black and White… The ART BLOG!  I am a visual artist and I love drawing and painting. Although my preferred medium is charcoal pencil on Bristol paper, I enjoy working in Caran d’Ache Aquarelle and mixed media as well.
The exploration of scriptural references to art and artists is particularly interesting to me and I work both representationally and abstractly using the portrait, figure, living creatures and their artifacts, nature, and still life as my impetus.  I marvel at God’s creation.  My greatest desire is that the attention of those who view my artwork will be drawn to God and that they will see Him through my artwork.
My drawings, paintings, and pencil portraits can also be viewed at:
